It can be seen from the chart that the trend was upward during the given period. The figure for oil consumption experienced a remarkable increase in comparison with oil production.
Looking at the graph in more detail, the average oil consumption remained steady about 2 millions from 1982 to 1990, and then it rose significantly at over 3 millions of barrels per day in 1994. Continously, the figure oil consumption still improved to peak of over 6 millions in the last 12 years.
At the beginning of the period, the amount of oil production increased slightly between 2 and 3 millions in 1986, afterward it maintained stability until 1994. However, at the end of 2006 the figure for oil production just obtained approximately about 3,5 millions.
