The graph gives information about the figure for African subscribers to 2 different types of phones between 1994 and 2004.
Overall, we can see that the rate of both mobile and fixed-line phones subscribers followed an upward trend over the period shown. Besides, there was a dramatic change in the percentage of people who subscribed to cell phones by the end of the period.
In 1994, the percentage of landline phones subscribers per 100 inhabitants in Africa was 1.7 much higher than the rate of cellular phones customers, only 0.06. The next five years witnessed a marginal rise to about 2.5 in the rate of African fixed-line phone users. Likewise, there was also a slight increase of 0,04 to 1 in the proportion of mobiles subscribers from 1994 to 1999.
From 1999 onwards, the rate of fixed-line phones subscriptions per 100 residents showed a gentle change from 2000 to 2003 and then almost reached a plateau of 3.1 in 2004. In the meantime, the period between 1999 to 2004 saw a significant increase in the African subscribing to mobiles of 7.8 and reached a peak of 8.8 in 2004.
