Essay topics:

The line graph below shows the percentage of tourists to Scotland who visited four different attractions in Edinburg. Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The line graph depicts the number of tourists visiting four distinctive types of tourist attractions including aquarium, castle, zoo, and festival in Scotland during a 30-year period from 1980 to 2010. The figures are illustrated in percentages.

Over the period, it is clear that amongst all four categories, zoos and castles were more popular. Especially, aquariums received by far the highest proportion of visitors. In 1980, over 20 percent of tourists to Edinburgh went to aquariums, then in 1995, this number peaked at about 45 percent. However, after 1995, it gradually decreased to only 30% in 2010. Similarly, the percentage of travelers to castles dropped slightly from 30 percent to about 28 percent during the meantime.

In the first 25 years of the time period, aquariums were more favored when compared to zoos. In 1980, 20 percent of tourists chose to see marine animals while only 10 percent of them went to observe land species. 30 years since then, the two’s tourist rates all underwent fluctuations before intersecting in 2005. This year, each of the attractions welcomed roughly 15 percent of visitors. Nevertheless, after this point, the number of zoo visitors went up to 20 percent whereas this of aquarium visitors dropped by 10 percent, reaching 8 percent approximately.
