Essay topics:

Many people nowadays work long hours and working has become more stressful.
What are the reasons for this?
What could companies do to help employees to improve their lives?

It is true that work hours is getting longer, and stress at work is becoming more intense. In my opinion, the reasons of this problem are related to the pressure of employers for results, and to the workers’ need for more funds. To helping employees corporations should create a better work environment and offer a performance bonus.

People are working more on a stressful environment for a number of reasons. One of them is
that employers are demanding better and faster results from workers. To deliverer the results expected by the companies, people are spending more hours working, and so becoming more stressed. For example, traditional freight companies in South Africa used to deliver an express order in 48 hours, however customers started to demand faster deliveries. So, to solve this problem some companies started to demand employees to work overnight shifts to have the job done in less than 48 hours. Another reasons is that employees is that employee need to make more money. The increasing cost of living in the cities are forcing people to work more to maintain their standard of living. In cities such as Toronto, New York, Tokyo and London it is becoming almost impossible for regular workers to afford a rental apartment. Those are the main causes for the problems presented.

There are two action that corporation should take to help workers to have an improved life. First, companies should provide their employee with a relaxed work environment. It means, bosses should not be monitoring and checking on employees every single minute, moreover companies should have a relaxation room with activities such as massage therapy, games, and tv, so people would be able to alleviate their stress during brakes. Secondly, companies should provide employee with a performance bonus. In other works, the company should offer more money to employees capable to reach their target within their regular work hours. This way people would not need to work more hours to obtain the money they need to afford their high cost of living. These actions would make all the difference for workers' life.

In conclusion, intensive work hours and stressful work environment are result of the large demand from companies that are trying to satisfy the market, and the need for more money on the worker's side. Although companies can not solve these problems completely, they can work on solutions to improve quality of life of their employees.
