The pictures depict the changes that took place in Frenton between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, over the period of 12 years, the examined area experienced modernization process to became more developed and civilized. It can also be seen that the majority of old venue were all upgraded and expanded while the Frenton's layout seemed to remain intact.
To begin with, the high street, which located in the central area, divided the map into 2 separate parts. On the right-hand side of the road, the previous location used for coffee and park in the 1990s are now substituted by the newly-built hotel and golf course. Furthermore, the old theater nearby and shops have also been renewed and equipped more facilities to become a cinema and a supermarket respectively. Meanwhile, a special area at the eastern part serving for housing was destroyed to make room for modern blocks of flats in 2012. The year 2012 also witnessed the appearance of flats situated in front of hotel area with a view to supplying sufficient accommodation for all residents.
Looking at the other side of the high street, while other sectors have significantly changed, the school at the corner of the map still stayed stable in terms of location and size. In contrast, the bank was not far from school has been converted into a bigger restaurant and the regions for planting trees in 1990 also be upgraded to become the technopark which could attract numerous local and international tourism on a daily basis. In addition, the old hospital sandwiched between library and playing fields are then enlarged approximately twice as much as the previous square. While another blocks of flats was constructed to take the place of playing fields, there was no change in the library during the period from 1990 to 2002.
