The two maps illustrate the status quo of the Islip town centre and its planned future state. Overall, the downtown will turn from an undeveloped residential community into a thriving area.
In its original state, Islip town centre has few structures. There are only a main road running straight from the west to the east of the town and two other paths connecting a school in the southwest and a park in the southeast with the main road. Along both sides of the main road are two terraces of shops. Besides, there is a countryside region in the northernmost part of the downtown while several houses scatter in the south.
According to the development plan, considerable changes may occur in the downtown. The countryside region will likely be removed to make room for a dual carriageway surrounding the town centre. The terrace of shops on the upper side of the main road is bound to be replaced with a bus station, a shopping mall, a parking lot and a new residential block. A portion of the main road which is in front of the shops is possible to be converted into a walking road. While the park and a new housing area will probably stay inside the circle of the dual carriageway, the school and an existing residential block are likely to stay outside the circle.
