More and more people want to buy famous brands of clothes, cars and other items. What are the reasons? Do you think it is a positive or negative development?
It is globally the case expensive items and vehicles from well-known brands are becoming popular among people. This trend can be attributed to a number of reasons and I think this is a negative trend.
People are becoming more and more interested in luxury items because of several reasons. First of all, owning expensive things can make people happy. For instance, many people often reward themselves with a Gucci purse after a hardworking month or a Mercedes car when they get promoted because they think that those items deserve their efforts and this can make them feel motivated. Another clear reason is that people just want to show off. Possessing clothes or cars from famous brands is a way for people to be respected by others because nowadays, they are usually judged by their appearances and personal properties.
It is believed that this is a negative development due to some disadvantages that it causes to society. To begin with, a large amount of money is wasted on unnecessary items. A lot of people buy expensive items to satisfy themselves although they are not too rich and this might create a financial burden for them and their families. The second justifiable reason is this trend can be harmful to the environment. If consumption increases, production will be promoted, which uses a vast amount of material. Many trees would be cut down for woods or animals might be hunted for their beautiful fur to satisfy the customers’ needs.
In short, there are many factors that contribute to the increase in the number of people buying luxury clothes, cars or other items and this trend can be disadvantageous in many ways
