Percentage of female members of parliament in five EU countries from 2000 to 2012
The line graph provides information about how many women worked at Parliament across five different nations (UK, Belgium, France, Italy, Germany) between 2000 and 2012.
Overall, all categories followed an upward trend during the timescale. It is also noteworthy that the popularity of women at Italian parliament increased substantially over the examined period.
Looking in more detail, occupying only a tiny fraction in the first year, the proportion of female members at UK's parliament witnessed the greatest growth, reaching nearly a quarter in 2012. Similarly, around 17% members of Belgium parliament were female in 2000, then this figure rose remarkably to the equal number of the UK 4 years later and remained static until the end of the period
Regarding the remaining categories, the highest percentage of female members belonged to Germany in 2002 (35%), compared to 29% and 27% for Italy and France, respectively. Then, the figures for the two latter saw a constant rise, with roughly a third of France and 40% of the other over the next ten years, which surpassed that of Germany by 5% in 2012.
