The table gives information about the proportion of male students in two different age groups who took part in five sports in the United Kingdom in the year 2010.
Overall, boys aged 6 to 11 participated more of each sport than that in boys between 12 and 16 years old almost all sports surveyed. Another visible trend is that, both surveyed groups recorded the same data in swimming.
The percentage of male students in both groups joining in football reached a peak, at 87% in 6- to 11-year-old boys and at 78% in the remaining group. 35% of boys aged 6 to 11 participated in basketball, compared with 25% of boys between 12 and 16 years old. Cricket was much more preferred by younger boys than by older boys. The figures were 45% and 34% respectively.
The proportion of school-aged boys playing rugby in the younger group was 23% in the year 2010. The figure for the older group was lower, at 21%. However, the same rate in swimming was seen in two age groups, at 19%.
