The bar chart below shows the percentage of students who learned to play four musical instruments over three different years; 2005, 2010 and 2015.

Overall, more students learned the instruments in the study in 2015 than in previous years, with the exception of the violin. Furthermore, guitar and piano remained the most popular instruments to learn in all the years surveyed.

In 2005, about 11% of students learned to play the guitar, piano and violin, while only 5% of students learned to play the drums. By 2010, the popularity of guitars and pianos had nearly doubled, with between 20% and 18% of students learning to play them. In the same year, the percentage of students learning to play the drums remained the same, while the percentage of students learning the violin decreased slightly.

In 2015, the percentage of students taking guitar lessons increased by about 10%, while the percentage of students taking piano lessons more than doubled, reaching about 40%. Furthermore, although the percentage of children learning drums increased slightly to 8%, the figures for violin decreased moderately, at only 5%.
