The pie chart shows the main reasons why agricultural land becomes less productive The table shows how these causes affected three regions of the world during 1990s

The pie graph provides information about the reasons for less productive land in the world, and the table illustrates how these causes influenced three regions in the world in 1990. From an overall perspective, it is evident that two primary reasons for this crisis were over-grazing and over-used planting areas. In addition, the highest percentage of degraded farmland was seen in Europe with deforestation as the main contributor to this problem.

In the first pie chart, over-grazing constituted for the biggest percentage of farmland degradation cause, followed by tree cutting practice and over-cultivation of a farm field at 30% and 28% respectively. In addition, just a small minority of this crisis was contributed by other factors (just below a tenth).

Moving to the table, 23% of the farming area in Europe in 1990 become less productive and this was caused by deforestation and over-used of farming area (9,8% and 7,7% each). In Oceania, just below 15% of farm area reported lost its function. Over 11% of this problem was led by over-grazing by livestock. In this area, however, there was no report indicating that the over-planting of farmland contributed to this crisis. Lastly, the least degraded land was shown in North America (5%). Over-used farm field was the leading contributor to this problem.
