The table and charts provide information about the total expenditure and source of imported fish to the US from 1988 to 2000.

Overall, the total value of fish imported to the US increased significantly throughout the period, in which Canada became the biggest exporter in the beginning of the period, while countries other than Canada and China exported more fish in the rest of the years.

Looking into details, in 1988, the US spent 6.57 billion dollars to import fish, in which six-tenths of the total came from Canada, just above one-tenths was from China, and more than a quarter was from other countries.

Furthermore, the expenditure in fish importing went up significantly by around 2 billion dollars in 1992, of which almost half of them were purchased from countries other than Canada and China. In contrast, Canada and China sold fish to the US at only one-third and one-fifth of the total.

In addition, spending more than 10 billion dollars in 2000, the US reached a peak in terms of imported fish consumption. In this year, the proportion of fish bought from Canada fell by 6%, while that from China rose considerably by 10%, and four-tenths of the fish was imported from other countries, making them the biggest exporter.
