In 2010, the proportion of money spent on housing and food in Malaysia was higher than that in Japan. To specify, in Japan, the percentage of average spending on housing accounted for 21%, which was 13% lower than that in Malaysia. Besides, the spending on food come as the second most popular spending in both countries, it made up almost a quarter and less than a third in Japan and Malaysia, respectively.
Nevertheless, the percentage of spending on the other items in Japan surpassed that in Malaysia. In detail, 20% and 6% were the proportions of the expense of transport and healthcare, respectively in Japan, which were twice as high as those in Malaysia.
