The charts illustrate the proportion of water used for the various purposes in sex regions in the world.

Overall, agricultural use accounted for the largest proportions of the total in South America, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia, but the highest percentage of all purposes in North America and Europe was Industrial use.

Agricultural use, which was the highest proportions, represented 71%, 84%, 88%, 81% in South America, Africa, Central Asia, and South East Asia respectively. While this figure for North America (39%) and Europe (32%) gained the second percentage of total.

Industrial use gained the largest percentage of the total with 48% in North America and 53% in Europe. Whereas this figure was the lowest proportion for South America (10%), Africa (7%) and Central Asia (5%), but represented the second of total in South East Asia with 12%. Domestic use in six regions accounted for small percentage with 13%,19%,15%,9%,7%,7% in North America, South America, Europe, Africa, Central Asia and South East Asia respectively.
