The pie charts compare the units of electricity production using five different fuels in two separate countries in 1980 and 2000.
Overall, Australia and France both had a similar increase in total production and an obvious change in each category of fuel used. In the comparison between 1980 and 2000, Australia depended virtually on coal to produce electricity, while nuclear power was used increasingly in France to do this.
Coal took the lion's share of Australian electricity production with 50 units in 1980 and ballooned to 130 units in 2000. In contrast, France's electricity production, which was produced through coal, had stable figures with 25 units in these two years.
France saw a sharp increase in the quantity of electricity generated by nuclear power, from only 15 units in 1980 to 126 units in 2000, while Australia did not use this kind of energy source.
The figures on natural gas for both nations fell dramatically to 2 units in 2000. Electricity production by oil was moderate in these countries in 1980. However, in 2000, Australia dropped to 2 units, while France rose slightly from 20 to 25 units.
