Some people think that employers should not care about the way their employees dress because what matters is the quality of their work. To what extent do you agree or disagree?
In modern workplace, dress codes are changing, as the majority of employers more focus on results than on rules that their staff must follow. While I agree that the way employees prefer to wear should be seen as irrelevant in many work contexts, I believe that the existence of dress codes for some professions is necessary.
On the one hand, we can see that many bosses have stopped telling their employees how to wear. I believe that this a positive trend. It can be seen that many famous and successful companies in the field of technology, such as Google and Facebook try to provide a relaxed office environment and let their staff to dress casually. Even executives and bosses in such companies usually wear casual clothes like T-shirts and jeans. While in such companies, employees are free to wear whatever they like, they are expected to produce work of outstanding quality. In other words, in companies that are giants in technology, the quality of the performance of staff has a priority, and dress codes have no necessary place in technology sectors.
However, I believe that it is important for some professions, employees are required to ear special uniforms. Most of us expect to see some professionals, such as doctors, firefighters, police officers and lawyers with special uniforms. These uniforms may have practical and safety functions, for example, the uniform of firefighters is fireproof that protects them from fire and flammable materials or doctors wear disposable uniforms for hygienic reasons. Additionally, uniforms can be a good indication for recognition of employees of each sector from ordinary people. Also, lawyers and politicians prefer to wear formal dress to portray an image of authority and diligence.
In conclusion, I support the trend towards relaxed dress codes for workers, however, it does not practical for all occupations and sectors of economy.
