The bar chart compares how much money students in the United Kingdom participating in post-secondary schools spent in selected categories in 1996, and 1999.
Overall, the class of 1996 paid more on essential items of daily life, and course related areas, while the class of 1999 tended to allocate more on recreational activities.
In 1996, living expenses such as house renting, food, and bills accounted for nearly a half of students’ budget, which was 10% higher than that of 1999. Tuition fee in 1996 also took the higher proportion of student’s expenditure than in 1999, with exactly 10% and approximately 7.5% respectively, and spending in non-essential travel also experienced the same pattern. Interestingly, the class of 1999 hardly spent money on taking care of their children, while it took about 2% of 1996 class’s allocation.
Students in 1999 paid more on entertainment activities, and non-essential customer items, which eventually accounted for nearly a half of their budget, higher than about 10% of 1996’s figure. Furthermore, schools also required students to traveled more in 1999 than in 1996.
