The table and charts below give information on the police budget for 2017 and 2018 in one area of Britain. The table shows where the money came from and the charts show how it was distributed.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The charts compare the amount of money from different resources used for the police and how the money was spent in a particular place in Britain over the years 2017 and 2018.
It is clear that financial support from all resources rose slightly between 2017 and 2018, and the national government accounted for the largest proportion of the police budget. We can also see that the money distributed for technology increased considerably in the same period.
In 2017, the police budget from the national government increased from £175.5 million to £177.8 million, while the money from other sources saw a slight increase from £38 million to £38.5 million. Although the national government received by far the highest proportion of the police budget, local taxes saw the biggest increase (£11.1 million) in the amount of money supported.
Looking more closely at the pie chart, we can see that 75% of the total budget spent on paying salaries in 2017 fell by 6% in 2018. There was no change in the proportion of buildings and transport in both years, at 17%, leading to a significant rise in the money spent on technology.
