The table below shows the amount of waste production (in millions of tonnes) in six different countries over a twenty-year period.
The table compares six different countries in terms of the amounts of waste they produced in the year 1980, 1990 and 2000.
We can see that US made more waste than the total number of Ireland, Japan, Korea, Poland and Portugal. Korea is the only country which reduced its waste production by the year 2000.
From 1980 to 2000, 61 million tonnes more waste produced by the US, which increased its output from 131 to 192. Same rising trends can be seen for Japan, Poland and Portugal, from 28 to 53, 4 to 6.6 and 2 to 5 respectively.
The trends for Ireland and Korea were significantly different from other countries. Ireland saw a rise in its waste production in 2000 was over eight times as high as it for 1980, with an increase from 0.6 to 5. However, the amounts of waste made in Korea fall at approximately 12 million tonnes, from 31 in 1990 to 19 in 2000.
