The table below shows the figures (in thousand) for imprisonment in five countries between 1930 and 1980.
Write a report for a university lecturer describing the information shown below.
You should write at least 150 words.

The table depicts the proportion of people in prison in Great Britain, Australia, New Zealand, the United State and Canada from 1930 to 1980.
Overall, it is clearly seen that, throughout the time period, the number of prisoners seen in those five countries fluctuated, with the figures of the United State being the highest, following by Great Britain.
According to the given chart, in 1930, the number of prisoners in New Zealand and the United State equaled; however, the former saw a steep fall in the next decade whereas the latter received over 20 thousand new inmates. During the aforementioned 10-year time period, the imprisonment figure of Great Britain stagnated yet Canada saw a slight drop from 120 thousand to merely 110 thousand prisoners. In 1950, both Australia and New Zealand saw a moderate decline, whereas the number of people locked away in the United State reduced marginally. Also seen in the period of 1940-1950, the figures of people being sentenced to jail in Great Britain and Canada went up approximately 15 thousand.
From 1960 to 1970, there were about 18 thousand inmates sent out of prisons in America and Great Britain. However, the incarceration figures of those remained countries all rise to the vicinity of 70 thousand convicts. In the next ten years, the figure of Australian inmates reduced about one-third that of the previous decade. Contrastingly, the United State saw a significant increase.
