The table below shows the proportion of income spent on 4 common items in the UK in 1998.
The table represents the percentage of British people spending their income on four consumer goods (food, electronic equipment, music and videos) depends on genders and ages.
Overall, adults spent the most of their income on foods while children spent the majority of their income on music, followed by electronic equipment. It is interesting to note that, food was the least spending items for children whereas videos were the least spending item for adults.
Looking in details, a quarter of adults' income had spent on food. Among those 39% was used by women and 14% was from men. Both genders have spent the least amount of money on videos as overall spending was 1% and each gender was recorded of 2% for men and 0.5% for women. Music had the equivalent proportions between genders of 5%, whereas electronic equipment had the overall spending of 5% but men had spent more (10%) than that of women (1%).
In contrast, a major portion of children's income had consumed on music of 39% in overall (boys of 38% and girls of 40%) in opposed to food and electronic equipment of 10% and 23% in overall. Girls spent more money on food of 11% compared to 9% for boys and for the electronic equipment had experienced of more boy's income gathered than that of girls (18% versus 5%). For videos, both gender spent the similar portion of their incomes of about 18%.
