Overall, there are increases in the numbers of the total length of the tracks in all countries examined, with the most significant rise being seen in the figures for China. In addition, it is forecasted that Japan will have the shortest railway system by 2020.

In 1990, the quantity of high speed rail tracks in Japan started at 1,832 kilometers, and then it experienced a dramatic rise to 2,534 kilometers after 20 years. The figures for France and China witnessed similar changes, growing from 720 to 1,871 kilometers and 0 to 3,529 kilometers, in turn.

The total length of railway for high speed trains in Japan is projected to continue rising moderately to 3,625 kilometers at the end of the timeframe.
