The table data illustrates the top ten countries in the world with the highest number of Internet users in 2016.
From an overall perspective, it is clear that China had the highest Internet users whereas the opposite was true for Mexico. In addition, the proportion of the population that had access to the Internet in the UK reached the most while the rate of India’s citizens used the Internet was the least.
As can be seen from the table, China dominated the list with the largest number of Internet users, over 721 million and accounted for 52,2% of the country’s total population (over 1,382 million people). Meanwhile, India ranked 2nd in the number of Internet users and population, with over 462 million and 1,326 million people, respectively but only made up 34,8% Internet users of the total population. In the US, the rate of Internet users comprised 58,8% with over 286 million people. The number of population had access to Internet in Brazil, Japan and Russia was over 100 million people, with the proportion of Japan’s citizen used Internet was the highest, at 91,1%, which was followed by the number in Russia and Brazil,with 71,3% and 66,4% of the total population, respectively.
Nigeria had over 186 million population with approximately 86 million Internet users, which accounted for only 46,1%. Meanwhile, the percentage of the population who used the Internet in the U.K made up the highest rate in ten countries , at 92,6% with over 60 million people, which was higher than the proportion in Germany, at 88%. Lastly, Mexico ranked at the bottom of the list with about 58 million Internet users and accounted for 45,1% users of the country’s total population.
