The table shows the amount of waste produced by different countries in 1980, 1990, 2000.
The figure presents information about the annual waste production of six different countries in the years 1980, 1990 and 2000.
The United States produced the largest amount of waste in all three years, which is significantly larger than the sum of the other five countries. In 1980, there are 2003 million tonnes of waste generated in the US and the number doubled from this year to 2000, reaching 4005 million tonnes. Japan also saw a rising trend during this period, increasing steadily from 44 to 52 million tonnes. The amount of waste production of Korea in 1980 was unknown, but it reduced almost one half from 1990 to 2000, from 31 to 19 million tonnes.
The waste produced in the remaining three countries was less significant, with the largest one being Portugal, experiencing some fluctuations and producing 9.9, 10.1, and 9.7 million tonnes in the three years respectively. A steady growth of waste production was seen in Poland, rising from 2 to 5 million tonnes during the 20 years. Ireland produced the least waste throughout this period, being 0.2 and 3 million tonnes in 1980 and 2000 respectively, with no figure provided for the year 1990.
Overall, the largest amount of waste was produced in the USA and the figure was constantly increasing. Portugal and Korean were the only two countries that showed an overall declining pattern and Ireland was the cleanest country among the six.
