The diagram illustrates the forest area in millions of hectares in several locations all over the world over the fifteen-year period.
It is noticeable that the trends of forested land in six areas remained relatively stable. While Africa and South America showed their dramatic decrease in the forest area, a minimal increase saw in that of Asia and Europe areas in three-year 1990, 2000 and 2005.
Within 10 years from 1990 to 2000, a dramatic decline in forested land in Africa and South America saw by 40 million hectares and 42 million hectares respectively. In contrast, Europe lands saw a forested extension with a significant growth from 989 to 998 million ha. Furthermore, other areas in the world fell gradually by 1 to 6 million hectares.
After 5 years from 2000, while Africa and South America locations constantly reduced in forested lands by 20 and 22 million hectares respectively, Asia areas rose remarkably again by 14 million hectares. However, other three areas such as Europe, North America and Oceania experienced their sustainable remaining or just slowly jumped up only 1 or 3 million hectares until 2005.
