The figure for North and South America dropped from 708 and 946 million to 705 and 882 million respectively. Similarly, Oceania's figure slightly dwindled from 199 to 197 million in 15 years.
In terms of forest area in Asia and Europe, there was an oscillation in Asia and a rise in Europe. In 1990, Asia owned 576 million hectares of forest, in the next decade, the number declined to 6 million but increase to 14 million hectares in 2005. In Europe, starting with 989 million, the figure surged to 1001 million in the fifteen years, which fivefold Oceania's figure.
