The tables compare sales figures of bananas and "Fairtrade-labelled" coffee in 1999 and 2004 in five different European countries .

As it is seen from the 1st table, the turnover of the coffee significantly increased in 5 years in all countries, though in the various degrees. In 1999, coffee sales was 1.5 millions of euros in the uk. it took off to 20 millions of euros in 2004 and as a result, the Great Britain became a leader in coffee consumption. During the same time period trade volume of coffee in switzerland and in belgium are almost doubled and in 2004 were 6 and 1.7, correspondingly, however the increase in figures of Denmark and Sweden was unremarkable.

When it comes to bananas, its sales volume went up as a whole, although in Sweden and in Denmark it declined. In 2004 sales figures for bananas in these 2 countries was half that of in 1999, about 1 millions of euro. However, other 3 countries experienced a rise in bananas consumption. Despite the fact that the most increase witnessed in belgium (more than 6 times), followed by the uk (about 5 times), in 2004 switzerland maintained its leadership with the figures of 47 million euro.

In summary, there is a significant growth in sales of both bananas and coffee in countries as a whole, while the vast majority of trade volume accounts for switzerland and the uk, taken together.
