Essay topics:

The tables below give information about sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas in 1999 and 2004 in five European countries.
Summarise the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.

The two tables provide data regarding the sales of bananas and coffee in two years, 1999 and 2004, in five countries, including the UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden.
Overall, the data shows that Switzerland is the leading country in selling bananas in both years. However, with the increasing trend in the sale of coffee, although the country took the first place in 1999, its place was quickly taken by the UK in 2004.
In 1990, the highest sale of fair trade-labelled coffee belonged to Switzerland, with three million euros, whereas in 2004, Switzerland doubled in sales, but the number was surpassed by the UK, with a dramatic peak from 1.5 million euros to 20 million euros, making the nation the leading coffee dealer in the five countries. During the same period, there was a slight increase, around 0.2 million euros, in the number of coffee sales in three other countries.
The second table illustrates the significant growth of the bananas sales, in which Switzerland dominated the sales with the rise from 15 million euros in 1999 to 47 million euros in 2004. The UK and Belgium also experienced an enormous increase in banana sales by 4.5 million euros and 3.4 million euros, respectively. In contrast to the rising trend that happened in other countries between 1999 to 2004, the sales of fairtrade labelled bananas in Sweden and Denmark dropped moderately by around one million euros.
