Traffic congestion
Traffic congestion has been a big problem for many administrations all over the world, especially in undeveloped countries. To disentangle the problem, many people suggested that the government should build trains and subway lines. Meanwhile, a school of thought claims that building more and larger roads is better. In my opinion, both give equally to the effort of preventing traffic jams.
First of all, I have to claim that building trains and subways are an effective way to improve the traffic situation. In countries that public transportation is up to standards, the number of private vehicles participating in the traffic tends to be very smaller than undeveloped countries. Hence, people in these countries are hardly stuck in traffic. Therefore, they can save hours of delaying and lots of money spent on travel expenses. A typical example is the Netherlands, their subway system is considered to be the most developed in the world. It has the lowest frequency of traffic jams. For many straight years, the Netherlands has been the place for the best driving experiences.
The other side, some opinion believes that a more effective way to cut the traffic jam situation is to erect wider road systems. It has the fact that in some countries, roads are relatively narrow and in a desperate state of disrepair, so there have not enough space for vehicles can move easily. If the road is better and bigger, traffic congestion would be solved.
Summary, both of way discussed above help mitigate traffic jam situation all over the world.
