Essay topics:

Transport delays and long journey times are a widespread phenomenon in many cities today. What are the causes of this problem, and how could the situation be improved?

These days, traffic congestion, which lengthens the amount of time it takes for travelling within the city, is an intractable problem that commuters in particular and the government as a whole have to face. There seem to be two main causes involved and there is a myriad of possible measures to tackle this problem.
The most obvious rationales leading to this trend are the want of investment in ameliorating infrastructure and overpopulation. Firstly, if the number of private vehicles on the street augment rapidly, the emergence of traffic congestion will be inevitable. This means that the disadvantaged traffic system of one country with narrow streets and many allies may lead to many bottlenecks on the road, especially during peak hours. Secondly, overcrowding in major cities caused by the influx of people coming from hinterlands to settle in urban areas in a bid to raise the ceiling on their future earning potential should be taken into account too. In other words, the more people reside in a city, the more private vehicles on the street, thereby imposing a heavy strain on the traffic systems, which are already stretched.
Regardless, funding for upgrading infrastructure and heightening the awareness of individuals should be applied to deal with this issue. If the government’s financial foundation is not strong enough to improve the current system, a public-private partnership, which is a mutually-reinforcing development, would be a practical option. Widening roads or enhancing networks, for example, may likely to pave the pathway for the appearance of the high-capacity traffic system. Furthermore, it is incumbent upon the government to offer individuals an impetus to partake in the communal car-pooling. This may happen by explaining for commuters that their positive deeds contribute to preserving the environment as well as abating the severe traffic problem.
In conclusion, a ramshackle infrastructure and the trend of flocking to developed areas are highlighted as the main causes engendering this trend. The cooperation between the government, private companies, and individuals are required to solve this problem at its root cause.
