A variety of pie-charts are used to depict the water use patterns in six areas of the world. The water usage can be classified into three categories – industrial, agricultural, and domestic.
It can be observed that water is predominantly used for agriculture in four out of the six regions represented. The habitants of Asian and African regions mostly use water for agriculture followed by the South America. Only the more production oriented areas like North America and Europe use more water for their industries as compared to their agricultural usage amounting to 48% and 53% respectively.
The figures in industrial usage are significantly low in the regions like South East Asia and South America at around 10-12%. The African and Central Asian region’s industry uses only 5 and 7% of the total water table. Interestingly, more water is used domestically by the population of Central Asia and Africa than in their Industries.
The water use patterns are directly reflecting upon the development of the regions. The industrially revolutionized North America and Europe depends on their industry for the economic growth which explains the water consumption. On the other hand, farming is a major occupation in the African and Central Asian continents.
