The line graph compares the consumption of fish and some different meat in European country between 1979 and 2004, a period of 25 years. The mass of meat and fish was measured in grams per person per week. Overall, the consumption of fish and meat dropped over the period shown, whereas the amount of chicken that were eaten increased, and become the most preferred meat.

In 1979, 220 grams of beef was eaten by European people, and this amount decreased to 140 grams in 1981. However, the preference of beef reached a peak of 240 grams in 1982 before going down to 110 grams in 2004. The figure for lamb were lower, at about 150 grams in 1979 and went down to 60 grams in 2004.

In sharp contrast to this, chicken consumption was increased gradually, until it overtook the consumption of lamb and beef, at 145 grams in 1980 and 200 grams in 1990 respectively. By 2002, chicken consumption hit a peak of 250 grams and reduced to 240 grams in 2004. Fish consumption was 60 grams in 1979, and dipped to 30 grams in 2004.
