Writing task 1 practice

While the table demonstrates the sources of money, the charts demonstrate how it was allocated for three purposes: salaries, technology, and buildings and transport.

Overall, the police budget considerably increased from 2017 to 2018, and the national government remained the main source. In this period, there were also changes in the way money was distributed.

According to the table, the police had a total of 304.7m eu for spending in 2017, more than half of which came from National Governments (175.5m eu). The second highest funding was from local taxes, accounting for 91,2m, which was twice as much as that of other sources. After 1 year, while there was no change in contribution rankings, the police budget witnessed a climb to 318.6m, with a significant incline of 11.1m in the figure for local taxes.

Turning to the pie charts, it is clear that the majority of the police budget was spent on officers and staff salaries in both 2 years. Accounting for 75% in 2017, the figure for salaries slightly decreased to 69%. Much fewer, the amount of money used for technology accounted for 8% in 2017. This percentage almost doubled in the next year. Meanwhile, there was no change in the proportion of money allocated for buildings and transport, which stayed at 17% throughout the period.
