The pie charts illustrate the ratio of water consumption in six regions across the world, divided into three categories including industrial, agricultural and household purpose.
Overall, it is worth highlighting that water used for agriculture accounts for the largest percentage in most of the regions: Central Asia, Africa, South America, except in North America and Europe which is mainly providing for industrial use. However, it is also noticeable that in South America household uses the highest ratio of water among all regions.
According to the graph, most of the specified areas reveal an identical water usage pattern. In these regions the discrepancy between the percentage of water used for the agriculture and others purpose is much remarkable, especially agriculture uses an overwhelming quantity of water in Central Asia, Africa, South East Asia and South America account for 88%, 84%, 81% and 71% respectively. In Central Asia, Africa and South America, the proportion of water used for Household is the second biggest user followed by industry, while in South East Asia industry enjoys second highest demand, followed by the household sector.
In contrast, North America and Europe experience a completely different pattern. Europe area primarily uses water for industry, making up the highest proportion among the remaining regions over a half of the total. Likewise, 48% of water is prioritized this purpose in North America, contrasting to 10% of that in South America. It is also evident that all six areas use an inconsiderable percentage of water for domestic purpose, apart from South America with 19% is the most significant consumption level.
