You are studying English at a private language school attended by many international students. You are planning a surprise birthday party for a friend who has been feeling particularly sad and homesick. Write to another classmate and invite him/her to the party. In your letter:
• explain the reason for the party
• give the date and time of the party
• suggest what the classmate could bring to the party
Dear Joe,
I’d like to invite you to the surprise birthday celebration of one of our classmates, John, on the evening of 12 November, Sunday.
The main reason behind arranging this party is to cheer John up. Since he has come here from Canada to study with us, nowadays, he most often looks gloomy and sad. Since he’d be missing his family on this birthday quite badly, a little celebration with us would make him feel good.
I’ve planned to organise this event on the rooftop of our hostel. As I said already, it’ll be on this Sunday. We can start gathering on the rooftop from around 7 pm.
The whole arrangement would need to be made by us. Therefore, I’d need a bit of help from you so that we could do a little music on this occasion. Can you please bring your guiter and sing a few songs for John and all of us before the dinner is served?
Talk to you soon.
Ben
