You live in a room in college which you share with another student. There are many problems with this arrangement and you find it difficult to work.
Write a letter to the accommodation officer at the college. In the letter:
• describe the situation
• explain the problems and why is it difficult to work
• say how you would like the situation resolved
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you to draw your attention to the difficulties that I am going through with my current roommate.
Firstly, my roommate is a drummer in our college band. He often brings his friends to the room to practice performance. It used to be once in a while, but this has become regular now. Secondly, he’s a night person and keeps the lights on until very late.
All of these have created many difficulties in my study. The regular band rehearsals are very noisy and I can’t even concentrate on my studies for the upcoming exams. Moreover, him working until late at night has often disturbed my sleep that has caused headaches the next day. My grades are suffering now and I’m afraid I might fail this semester if this goes on.
I would like to request you to kindly change our rooms so I can focus on my studies. If you don’t have any vacant rooms, I would like to get my money refunded so that I can find accommodation off-campus. I have tried to convince my roommate many times but his refusal to cooperate has forced me to reach out to you.
I look forward to the resolution regarding this matter.
Yours faithfully,
ABC
