In this modern era, a growing number of individuals are prepared to invest a substantial amount of money in beauty services. While this trend has been ongoing for some time, the rapid growth of the beauty industry is indeed remarkable. In my view, this trend is positive and can be explained by both personal and societal factors.
Personal needs can be considered the primary reason why many people, irrespective of their age and gender, invest in their appearance with the hope of appearing younger to others. It could be seen as an intrinsic human desire to possess a beautiful or youthful appearance. Consequently, improved financial capabilities have enabled individuals to spend on the beauty industry, ranging from clothes and cosmetics to more permanent solutions like cosmetic surgeries.
Another reason for this trend is societal expectations. Due to the nature of certain jobs, such as customer service or receptionist roles, aesthetically pleasing staff are more likely to make a positive impression on customers, leading to better outcomes. Additionally, some individuals alter their appearance to align with their groups or communities. In other words, they seek to foster inclusivity and enhance their sense of belonging.
While this endeavor can pose financial and health risks, I view it as a positive development for two reasons. Firstly, it enhances self-reliance and confidence for those who strive for an improved appearance. Psychological factors play a crucial role in a person’s success, and it is undeniable that a confident individual is likely to excel in both their personal and social lives. Secondly, the beauty industry has made significant contributions to the economic development of many countries. For instance, Korea is regarded as one of the world’s largest markets for cosmetics and providers of beauty services, with international customers spending billions of dollars annually.
In conclusion, the motivations behind the trend of spending money on personal appearance are diverse, varying on both personal and societal levels. Despite some potential drawbacks, I argue that it is a positive trend because everyone has the right to pursue an improved self-image. Additionally, the national economy also benefits from the beauty industry.
