"Students only learn for good marks". Do you agree or disagree with this statement?
When it comes to education, there has been a heated debate about marks. Some people state that good marks are the only reason why they study. In my opinion, I partly agree with this point of view.
On the one hand, we cannot deny that mark is an essential criterion in our education system. Commonly, students are judged and classified based on their results at school. This has put them under pressure to meet the standards to level up. Thus, they study hard or even burn the midnight oil to do homework and revise for the upcoming exams. Additionally, friends' performance at school profoundly affects them. As youngsters tend to compare themselves to their classmates, they will be uncomfortable when their scores are not as high as their friends. This can stimulate them to learn hard to get results.
On the other hand, in many developed countries, learning is not just a matter of gaining good marks at school. This is because they are fully aware of the importance of knowledge in their later life, not only for examinations. Instead of trying to get the best marks to be in good comparison to friends, they learn to acquire more experience. To be more specific, through the learning process, they know how to manage time or what work they should take priority over. Besides, they work hard because they understand that its results will be advantageous when they enroll in higher education and, further, find a job.
In conclusion, as learning is a long-term achievement, students should not only learn for good academic performance but also work to benefit their future.
