: Summarize the points made in the lecture, being sure to explain how they cast doubt on the points made in the reading passage. You have 20 minutes to type your response.
The passage describes that dams are one of the most effective and beneficial form of generating electricity and they have other advantages too and provides reasons of support. However the professor thinks that although they are one of the main sources of renewable energies and are beneficial but they have some environmental and financial disadvantages too and refutes each of the articles reasons of support.
First the passage states that dams have many positive impacts on important because they hold massive water and form artificial lakes. These lakes made by dams can generate an artificial inhabitant for fish and local inhabitants. The professor refutes this idea and states that environment suffers from dams a lot because they need to close the river path to construct a dam and though this can cause many fish die. more over these lakes flow slower than natural rivers and this can negatively affect the productivity of fish.
Second the article discuses that the power that is produced from dam doesn’t cause environmental pollution and is much better than the power that is produced from fossil fuel and coal power. However the professor in contrary states that the flood that is generated because of the artificial lakes made by dams, can cause fish die and dead creatures produce metan that is a global warming gas. he added that dams release this gas and also it destroys the plants that can reduce greenhouse gases.
Finally the passage believe that dams have no financial burden on government and they provides two means of revenue, first the electricity that they produce and second water for irrigation. The professor states that they should spend a lot of money on controlling the flood that is caused because of artificial lakes that dams form, that not cheap at all. He states that to do this the government aid is needed and this financial aid is provided by local tax dollars.

We are expecting: No. of Words: 350 while No. of Different Words: 200
Better to have 5 paragraphs with 3 arguments. And try always support/against one side but compare two sides, like this:
para 1: introduction
para 2: reason 1. address both of the views presented for reason 1
para 3: reason 2. address both of the views presented for reason 2
para 4: reason 3. address both of the views presented for reason 3
para 5: conclusion.
So how to find out those reasons. There is a formula:
reasons == advantages or
reasons == disadvantages
for example, we can always apply 'save time', 'save/make money', 'find a job', 'make friends', 'get more information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.
or we can apply 'waste time', 'waste money', 'no job', 'make bad friends', 'get bad information' as reasons to all essay/speaking topics.
