The reading states about the handwritten book which became known as voynich manuscript. In the passage the author mentions about its probable authors and provides three theories to support. However, the professor explains that none of the authors mentioned in the reading are genuine and opposes each reason.
First, the reading claims that Anthony Ascham could be a probable author of the book as the plant illustrations in the book resembles those of Ascham's book on medical plants. The professor refutes this point by saying that the book has many special codes present in it which are not generally present in Ascham's books. He states that little herbal book written by Ascham has common descriptions of the plants which provides a kind of knowledge to the audience where as the manuscript had many coded things written in it.
Second, the article claims that it could have been written by Edward Kelley as the book has lot of magical secrets which doesn't have any meaning underlying it. However, the professor says that it is unlikely to be written Kelley as the people of 16th century were easy to be fooled and author doesn't need to use complex secrets to write it. According to professor, the creator of the book took lot of care to make it look like a real code and which was not required for the 16th century people.
Third, the reading says that Voyinch wrote the book in order to sell it for an attractive offer. The professor opposes this point by explaining that the book used inks and papers which were available 400 years back and it wouldn't have been possible for the voyinch to find those inks in his time period. We learn that in order to make the book look like a duplicate one same manuscript with the same ink has to be used.
