Altruism
The reading and the lecture are both about altruism like a kind of behavior that we can see on human beings and animals. Whereas the author of the reading states that we can find several cases of altruism in the animal world. The professor suggest that is not usually find out cases of altruism among animals or humans as well. The lecture casts doubt on the main point made in the reading by providing three reasons.
First of all, according to the reading, in the cases of human we can find out altruism acts when someone donate a body organs to another person like a relative or even to strangers. However, the lecturer disputes this point. She says that when someone donate a body organ, they do not receive anything. Furthermore, she mentions that person, who donate the body organ, does not feel well with this act since they cannot choose who they will donate the organ.
Secondly, the article posits that meerkat are a species who appear to act altruistically, because a sentinel is looking out for a predator when the others are hunting food and eating that they gathered. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this argument. She argues that the sentinel is the first that can the chance to escape when it sees a predator. In addition, she point out the sentinel eat before to stand guard so it is not an altruism act like the reading explain.
