Apparently, there has been a debate between scientists about the causes of the ice age
Apparently, there has been a debate between scientists about the causes of the ice age, a group of scientists suggests three theories explain this phenomenon which represented in the reading passage, while another recent studies refutes all these theories and said that all of them were indeed, unlikely to cause the ice age, as the professor explains in the lecture.
First of all, the professor asserts that the first theory in the reading passage does not convincing enough, because the golf stream disruption which had been caused as a result of increase in the ocean water level, were caused just in Europe and in South America, this effect did not happen in Africa or North America, as long with this fact, we can not rely on this theory to explain the ice age in all over the world as the author assumes.
Second, the professor maintains the opposite opinion regarding the volcanic eruption theory, he contends that, if the amount of the ash that had been emitted from the volcano was huge enough to cause the ice age, that mean, it suppose to cause a dramatic vision effects, like seeing the ice in gray color instead of white, in fact, there are no reports talking about such a kind of effect, that in turn lead to make the author argument unbelievable.
Finally, the lecture critics the third theory about the effect of decreasing in human population at that time which lead to increase the forest areas, besides that, decrease in carbon dioxide concentration, which lead to reduction in green gas roles in keeping the weather warm, by claiming that, this effect to be truly happened, it needs a long time, while the population reduction rapidly developed to appropriate level, that mean this cause practically not true.
