Is to assemble group of people into a team best way to approach a new project
The reading and the lecturer is about how to approach a new project. The author, in regard to passages, is supporting the idea of group of members handling a project and supports his position by providing three arguments. The lecturer was quick to point out that there are some serious flaws in author’s claims. In fact, he believes that group of members causes delays to the projects, and addresses, in detail trouble linked to each argument made in the reading text.
To begin with, the author mentions that with group of members handling projects, there will be a lot of knowledge and expertise to accomplish a task. Nevertheless, the speaker contradicts this by stating that some of the team members just gets a free ride as they don’t contribute much to the project and they don’t get any benefit from team appreciations. Moreover, he suggests that individuals who have worked are not recognized and thus there is change in their attitude.
Secondly, the author claims that due to group work on different tasks, it takes less time to finish them up. Next, he brings up that this results in a creative solution to finish up a task. Yet, the speaker challenges the author’s claim by revealing that with group of members working, it takes time to come to a consensus about a discussion which delays the projects further.
Finally, the author wraps his arguments by positing that with group of people working an individual is not accounted for any decision going wrong. As a result, it helps to take risky decisions which otherwise would not have been taken by an individual. Not surprisingly, in contrast to writer’s claim, the speaker puts forth that many times, one or two members from a time have influence over other team members. This results in their decision being followed across the team even if, those decisions can be wrong and can results in failure of the project. This can result in every team member being held responsible for the failure of project.
To sum up, both the author and the lecturer has conflicting views regarding group of members handling projects. It is clear that they will have trouble finding common ground on this.
