According to the reading passage, it is stated that sending people to an asteroid for establishing a colony will be more beneficial than doing the same thing in Moon or Mars, and it provides some reasons regarding this idea. However, the professor in the listening states why the assumptions mentioned in the reading passage were not correct and refutes them by describing three reasons as follows.
Firstly, the reading claims that asteroids are smaller than other planets due to the low gravity they have, which benefits the colonization idea by making the landing of spaceship easy, allowing spacecrafts to carry more equipment, and also decreasing the need of carrying much fuel for the trip. The professor casts doubt on this point by saying that while lower gravity facilitates the landing of spaceship, it has a lot of risks to the human body in the long run. He states it may raise the hazard of losing muscle mass or bone density declining. Hence, an environment with a lower gravity would be hazardous rather than lucrative.
Secondly, the article posits that colonists or businesses sponsoring them can enrich themselves by mining and returning the precious elements like gold or platinum, which exist in high volumes on asteroids, to the Earth. In contrast, the professor says that costs of supporting a colony and transporting material is so high that it can't be as profitable as it is supposed. On the other hand, according to the professor, there is no guarantee for the profit of selling those materials; they may lose their value or be not sold at the right price.
Finally, the reading says that asteroids periodically come within or near Earth's orbit, which makes them more easy and affordable to reach. The professor opposes this point by saying that returning from those asteroids would not be as easy as attaining them. He goes on to say that some orbital pads come occasionally approach the Earth and then get away. Therefore, since an asteroid won't stay close to Earth, coming back of them would be a challenge.
