However, the professor in the listening states, why the assumptions mentioned in the reading passage were not correct and refutes them by describing three reasons as follows.
Firstly, the reading claims that by storing records in an electronic database, the need for significant amount of storage and problems of doctors' access will be reduced; therefore, it will cost less to copy or trasfer records from one location to another. The professor casts doubt on this point by saying that doctors will still need to keep paper records of their patients for emergency back-up. She mentions that because of this fact there will not be any cost savings related to record storage.
Secondly, the article posits that electronic records have the advantage of preventing possibility of human errors, because it is associated with a standard and readable font. In contrast, the professor says that doctors must still use a pen and paper to record their patient's information while examining them. As a result, the interpreter who enters the information written by the doctor into the electronic system may make errors while reading doctor's handwriting.
Finally, the reading says that electronic databases provide an aiding research which means they can store thousands of information that could be accessed from any research location. The professor opposes this point by explaining that unlike what is mentioned in the reading there are strict privacy rules related to recording patients' information; hence, a patient can block others access to their medical record if they wish to. That's why this claim can't be a merit for electronic database approach.
