The reading and the lecture are both about Broccoli which grow in cooled regeons in the West Coast. More specifically, in regard to the passage, the writer presents three theories about the advantages of cultivating Broccoli in the West Coast. The lecturer disputes the claims made in the article. His position is that there are no sucssefull benefits from this new type.
First and foremost, the author of the reading states producing Broccoli locally in the West Coast will decline the coast for cosumers. The article mentions that the coat of transporting the Broccoli will be removed, so the cost will be lower. This argument is challenged by the lecturer. He claims that new palnting of Broccoli not paramount to be cheaper because in the West the vegetable yield lower, so the farmers will sell them in higher price. Additionally, he points out that this increase in the price will cancel the reduction in the transportation cost.
Secondly, the author suggests that the new type will be more desirable for the consumers because it produced using genetic modification. In the article, it is said that the new Broccoli has some features like resistance to the hoot solar. Again, the professor specifically addresses this point when he states the fund for this new type is from the same frims from the past that the people have a bad experience with them. He goes on to say that people will reject this new product because it has a realtion with these corporations.
Finally, the author brings his argument to a close by suggesting that the recent Broccoli can be eaten directly whhich means more nutrients, in comparison with the last type which loss its benefical. Not surprisingly, the lecturer takes issue with this claim by contending that new Broccoli is not crucial to be high nutrient and there are many vegetables in the East have high value of nutrients. He notes that kale is producing in East and it has many advantages, so instead of spend this amount of money on research it is better to educate people about the high nutrients vegetables in local cities.
