Regarding to the lecture, skeptics believes that the discovered chamber, which belonged to 200 million years ago could not have been related to the Bees. Conversely, the professor thinks that it was possible that the found fossil were remnants of bee's chamber. She argues three reason to call the author's notion into question.
The first theory says that, no fossils of actuall bees was found from that time, and the latest fossil found belonged to 100 million years ago. The professor mentions no insect could have been preserved since that long time. The found bees were trapped in the a resin of a special plant and were found as an Amber. It is possible that 200 million years ago the plants that were able to make the resin were absent, therefore not bees were preserved.
Second paragraph talks about lack of flowering plants, it postulates that if modern bees have a coexistence with flowering plants, the traditional species of bees also should have a corelation with it. Again the professor rebuts this theory by saying that, it was possible that bees have lived before emerge of flowering plants. She explains that early bees could have consumed ferns or other trees and gain its foods.
Finally, based on text, structures of the chamber lacks details of modern bee's chamber and does not have the same cap which modern chambers has. The professor claims that lack of such evidennce does not necessarily means that they were not made by bees. In fact, chemical evidences support the similarty of the ancient chambers with modern ones. The lecturer clarifies that modern bees use a kind of water proof substance to make their nest, and it was observed in the found fossil.
- Did bees (a type of insect) exist on Earth as early as 200 million years ago? Such a theory is supported by the discovery of very old fossil structures that resemble bee nests. The structures have been found inside 200- million-year-old fossilized trees i 78
