Electricity used in ancient times?
The Lecturer, discusses the reading and she believes that the reasons that the passage mentions are not convincing at all.
She disagrees about the point made in the lecture about being no evidence of meetal wires near the excavation site. As the passage mentions, the wires were found by local people, so this could mean that there might have been evidence of wire as well, and a team of archeologists might have been able to find that evidence. However, now nobody can know for sure.
About the paragraph in the passage reffering to the use of Copper cylinders in the city of Seleucia, she believes the argument is not valid. It is true that the scrolls were used for holding scrolls, but the use could have easily changed over time. Meaning that in some period they used it for holding scrolls and later a scientisct introduced a new use for them.
The lecturer then continues saying that electricity causes a shock, and in those times it might have been usefull in creating an illusion of power. It could have been used to make other people believe someone had magical powers. This could have very useful. It could have also been used in medicin, to relif pain.
