The fire in Yellowstone park, Good or bad?
yellowstone park was not actually a bad, but more a part of the ecocycle. As the lecturer later explains, the fire created many changes and oppertunities for vegetation and animals.
Though the yellowsone fires caused tremendous damage to the park, the fire gave a chance to new plants to grow, she argues. For example, trees and plants that needed more area to grow now had an opportunity also some seeds requier heat to grow. Fire made that possible and gave a chance to a whole new variety of plants.
Then, the lecturer brings up the damage done to the animals, and says after the fire, new animals had the chance to live in yellowstone park. For example, rabbits or hairs now had a chance to live in yellow stone. And with them living in yellowstone, habitat for other animals that relied on them was possible. Therefore, some foodchains were even stronger than before.
The lecturer agrees that businesses relying on the park suffered the consequences of fire, like tourist season being cut short. But that kind of fire is really rare and has not happen since. In the year of fire, there was special circumstances, low rainfall, strong winds are just a few to name. It is highly unlikely for that kind of conditions to happen anytime soon. Yellowstone visitors returned the year after the the fire and have been coming back each year ever since.
The lecturer believes that fire is part of ecological cycle and changes that it does to a system like a park, will not be permanent. As the Yellowstone fire was a proved this.
