fossil
The reading asserts that Sinosauropteryx doesn't possess feathers. The lecturer, however, finds the idea dubious and casts doubt on the reasons proposed by the reading passage.
First, the author argues that the fine lines were the results of fossil decomposition which happened at the site. Conversely, the lecturer brings up the idea that other animal fossils in that site were well-preserved and the possibility it is unlikely that this particular fossil becomes decomposed.
Furthermore, the reading passage holds the view that by assuming the lines are not for decomposition, the exact anatomy still is not clear. On the contrary, the professor underlines the fact that frills and feathers are different in the chemical substances. And the laboratory experiments have shown that this fossil contains that particular protein that is of these two.
Finally, the reading questions the functionality of these feathers as it was near the tale and couldn't help the animal with flying or regulating body temperature. In contrast, the speaker dismisses due to the fact that there are other reasons for the functionality of feathers, for example, displaying and attracting male attention. Moreover, the feathers were colorful, which confirms this idea.
